Technical Content Writer/Editor, Energy Markets

This position requires not only excellent written and oral communications skills to convey complex topics clearly, but also requires strong collaboration skills and an interest in energy markets.  This position will play a key role in working with analysts to write and edit market reports, BTU Analytics’ Energy Market Insight, and marketing material in a fast-paced environment with deadlines. It requires developing knowledge and a detailed understanding of our products, their differentiators, and the analyst teams’ thinking. Positive relationships with analysts and key stakeholders will be key to success.

The knowledge of our team grows from collaboration and shared experience, so regular, reliable attendance, a proactive nature and willingness to learn from others is a must.  You will need to work both independently and as part of a team under time pressure to meet deadlines.  This will frequent and open communication with the team. The flexibility of our team is a key differentiator for BTU Analytics, so effective professional communication and maintaining healthy working relationships with co-workers as individual and team priorities shift is essential.  Our firm finds success when our clients are successful, so learning how our data and analysis is used by our clients is critical. 

 Job responsibilities:

  • Editing all BTU Analytics published content including Energy Market Insights, research reports, market commentary, and marketing materials

  • Collaborating with analysts to produce engaging, clear written analysis and content for clients

  • Communicating effectively with analysts regarding any questions of fact, data calculations or other clarifications to ensure accuracy of content

  • Staying up to date with knowledge of covered industries

  • Publishing materials to PDF and through various distribution channels including website and FactSet Workstation

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, English, Writing, or related field

  • 2-5 years of experience covering oil & gas and power markets, with a focus on the US and Canada

Highly Desired Skills:

  • Strong collaboration skills to work with analysts to create and maintain key external-facing content

  • Ability to take complex energy market concepts and communicate them clearly and concisely

  • Strong editorial skills and excellent attention to detail

  • Excellent written and oral English-language skills

  • Familiarity with oil & gas and power-related terminology and units

  • Comfortable writing about topics that include numbers and basic math and statistical concepts

  • Ability to multi-task and work fast-paced environment with teammates to produce high quality work under tight deadlines

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products including PowerPoint and Word

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of data structures and algorithms, object-oriented programming, and software engineering principles.
  • Ensuring that deployed products are properly maintained throughout their lifecycle
  • Use Python, Angular or Vue and other related technologies to develop server-side solutions, such as APIs.
  • Must be able to write SQL queries
  • Participate in design and code reviews of multiple projects across teams
  • Position requires to participate in 24/7 on-call support on a rotation basis with the team
  • Should be quick leaner and open to learn new things

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Strong technical, analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
  • Experience with Python

Salary Range: $85,000 – 90,000 USD

Power Analyst - BTU

Responsibilities:

A Power Markets Analyst at FactSet is responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing power markets data sets that drive the decisions of FactSet clients. This includes understanding how the energy transition and shifting political sentiment will affect the operations of existing power plants and development of new power plants. In addition, the analyst will build and maintain a database of global wind, solar, and thermal plants, capturing relevant market intelligence and monitoring proposed project’s progress. The analyst will become an expert in the unique regulatory and market environments that each plant operates in and how that affects its operations and profitability.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum two years of experience in power markets

  • Quantitative background and degree

  • Attention to detail

  • A “client-first” mentality

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, working independently and as part of a team

  • Proactive nature, willingness to learn, and taking ownership of tasks

  • Must be proficient at database and personal computer analytical and reporting tools

  • Proficient writing skills

Salary Range: $60,000-80,000 USD
